| Bank Of America Secured VISA depends on my credit score Ripoff Centralia Illinois *Consumer Comment ..Thanx 'em |
| Company Bank Of America Address: www.bankofamerica.com Centralia Illinois 62801 U.S.A. Phone Number: Fax: |
Recently applied for a SECURED VISA card with Bank of America, with SECURED being the key word here! Have had checking and savings accounts with BOA for 3 years, with direct deposit, and no NSF charges. I admit I'm not the richest customer they have, only depositing about 40K per year......long story short, I was ready to transfer $1000. into a separate, SECURED account, in exchange for the SECURED VISA...... No go is what I was told by BOA, since I have a low credit score. I have a current car loan and 3 UNSECURED credit cards from other banks all of which are also current, never having been over limit. They told me that without a better score there was NO WAY on earth I could get a SECURED VISA from them! Isn't the money in the SECURED account placed there to GUARANTEE payment of charges on a SECURED card??!!!!?? Some of the things BOA does makes no sense! Now, if I was an illegal alien I understand BOA would gladly issue me an UNSECURED VISA with a $1000.00 limit, and would not even have to have an account with BOA!! This is what they are doing in California right now! Time for me to switch banks........ John MARSHALL, Illinois U.S.A. Click here to read other Remove Rip Off Reports on Bank of America

| Thanx 'em | |
You already have "3 UNSECURED CREDIT CARDS" and you want a FOURTH? "...only depositing $40k a year". Yet you still have a low credit score. If you have the $1000 bucks to put into a secured credit card, skip the credit card altogeather and just pay cash. Work on improving your credit score and paying a heck of alot less interest rates for the rest of your life. Good luck. Cory - San Antonio, Texas U.S.A. |

| Missed the point | |
Thanks to Cory for the response/advice, BUT I think you missed my point......isn't a SECURED card payment guaranteed by the funds placed in an account as collateral? If so, what difference should it make what my credit score is?? Thats what I would like to know.....and my score is 690....but by their standards I guess thats low.....and maybe it is...... | Also had that issue
The first time I appied for a secured BOA Visa, I was also denied. I think it was because of the amount. I had requested $250, submitted a Bank of America check for that amount, as was turned down. Later, I re-applied with a check for $500 as was approved. While they might not state so, sometimes the amount you are requesting might be part of the problem. Incidently, I tried to increase this to $1,000 a year ago and it was turned down, they returned the check and the original $500 plus interest and informed me that the card was converted to a non-secured card. Bank of America screws up on a daily basis and their Customer Service Representatives suck big time (I think they outsource to India or something because they all have unpronounceable names and don't seem to understand English. Every time I explain a proble with their website, I get the same standard "please check your login and password info, even though I can log in manually without problems and I didn't change anything on the BOA webpage. They seem to change their webpage way too often and everything stops working for months at a time). I've had nothing but constant problems with their tech support in areas such as their web and "My Portfolio" services that are still unresolved, but I just gave up on them as completely hopeless. As soon as I can find a bank that is everywhere that matches BOA on the parts that do work, I will dump them like the smelly diaper bag they are. But, on the good side, they do seem to do okay on the credit card part. Hard to get, but I feel worth it just to have. Keep trying with an amount like $500 and maybe you will get lucky.
